Don’t Breathe (2016) English Movie Short Review

As much as I dislike films that are almost entirely shot in the dark, I should admit that  the creepiness that some of them bring into their fold is admirable. Fede Alvarez’s ‘Dont Breathe’ has almost all of its action happening around the murky corners of a dimly lit old house in the dead of the night. Despite all this, I end up scared at least a couple of times, which is a good thing when it comes to films in this genre.

Three youngsters, Rocky, Alex, and Money believe they will have it easy with a blind Iraq war veteran, as they plan to loot his house and flee to California with the loot money. Their plans go terribly awry when they realize that the man is one hell of a nut to crack.

This is a clever film that almost entirely relies on Pedro Luque and his lurking camera to come up with some incredibly startling effects. There are also several jump-out-of-your-seat moments that would shock you out of your wits.

I would rather pretend to ignore those final moments of revelation that appear a bit too contrived. Whopper performances by the leading cast -Jane Levy, Dylan Minnette, Daniel Zovatto and the incredible Stephen Lang and you have a neat thriller in your hands.

Verdict: Edge-of-the-Seat Thriller
