The question that ‘Evide’ harbours in its title is answered in no time by its sheer obviousness. And for a mystery thriller as this, it could prove fatal, and expectedly leads to its crack-up in no time.
The fine intent notwithstanding, ‘Shubharathri’ does not seem to acknowledge the tremendous transformation that has occurred to cinema in this corner of the world. A bit too aged to make an impression on today’s viewers, it’s a film with a valid message that unquestionably deserved a much finer treatment.
‘Drama’ has an impressive line-up of actors led by a dapper Mohanlal, none of whom have anything spectacular to dish out. It’s an inept satire that lacks the bite that whirls and wheezes all the while, trying vainly to get its stage, settings and actors all in place.
There is the final scene that for me is the very best thing about ‘Sunday Holiday’, where the tales cross over to skilfully amalgamate into one. And it is this point that leaves you rueful, and wish that the romance that had preceded it had the bite that could have smartened it up into an evenly exhilarating cinematic experience.
The gripes about the follies and futility of war definitely serve a purpose, but ‘1971; Beyond Borders’ sees the classic instance of too much overstating a cause messing up your case altogether. This is also the reason why the film emerges as generic, and the fascinating and inspirational real story on which the film is based gets watered down on screen.
