All said and done, ‘Anweshanam’ does move beyond the routine and warrants your attention to a great extent with its unpredictability. That it allows itself to be ingested by its own sense of intrigue is where it starts losing its feet on the ground, and where it tumbles down as a verbose thriller that it should never have been.
‘Ishq’ marks the arrival of another gifted film maker on the scene, who presents before us a fascinating study on how the human mind ticks, when pushed to exceptionally extreme limits and beyond. A brutal exercise that blatantly confronts a very pertinent social issue, ‘Ishq’ is a film that is so difficult to endure, and which yet, should be undeniably endured.
In ‘Mayanadhi, director Aashiq Abu, armed with a dexterously penned screenplay, settles down to sensitively sketch a doomed tale of love. An impeccable reconstruction of an age-old narrative in an untested realistic setting, ‘Mayanadhi’ is the kind of film that holds a depth of meanings in those abstract gazes, a profundity of emotions in those unuttered words, and which leaves an inexplicable, seething sting at the upshot of it all.
