‘Happy Sardar’ is a perfect example of how a probably brilliant idea on paper could evolve into a damp squib on screen. There is a fat chance that the romance in it would move you or the comedy in it would have you clutching your stomachs, and sans any real thought or notion, this Sardar and his gang brings you no joy.
‘Neeyum Njanum’ threads together an exceedingly prolonged strand of events that fails to have an emotional impact on the viewers. Drained of specificity, ‘Neeyum Njanum’ makes use of stock romantic situations and bundles them together as a cluttered whole.
‘Johny Johny Yes Appa’ is neither funny nor edgy and leaves you high and dry at the end of its running time. Undermined by emotional incoherence and comic incompetence, this is an unfocussed film that fails to hit its target by a hundred miles.
Amal Neerad’s uncompromising portrait of disillusionment and of a paradise lost and forcefully regained is a searing piece that simply slices right through you. ‘Varathan’ is a slow burning tour-de-force that is dark and disturbing by turns and a foreboding cinematic experience that is impossible to shake away, let alone forget.
There is no denying that the premise of ‘Aadhi’ is one that has been around for ages in cinematic history; you are the sole witness to a horrific incident, you get implicated in it and you run for your dear life, all the while striving to disentangle yourself from the terrible mess that you suddenly find yourself embroiled in. It has all been said and done, and Jeethu Joseph’s script of ‘Aadhi’, strictly follows the prescription, in plotting and characterization.
‘Role Models’ neatly fritters away a talented cast and comes across as more galling than humorous. This is a missed opportunity for sure, and one that lacks any real spark or spur.
