Despite the very obvious passion that it holds for the genre, M Padmakumar’s ‘Mamangam’ is miles away from the estimable cinematic piece that it could have been. With a tightened format and a focused script, this is a film that could have been as magnificent a fest as ‘Mamangam’ must have been, but which goes up in flames despite an exorbitant budget and a stellar cast.
‘Aana Alaralodalaral’ tries to make the best of what it has, but the sad thing is it doesn’t have much, and the little it has, has an outmoded air to it. The ultimate result of this trumpet that lasts for a couple of hours but which seems and sounds much longer, is nothing but mediocrity, and that too, stacks of it.
Venugopan’s ‘Sarvopari Palakkaran’ has as much of Pala in it, as there is prose in prosody. A film that has literally nothing to do with Pala or Palakkad for that matter, Sarvopari Palakkaran’ gains its ceremonious title from the mere fact that its male lead hails from Pala.
