This is a remarkable directorial debut from Chidambaram that absolutely justifies its running time. Nurturing all kinds of delicate emotions and topping them all with some whimsical humour, ‘Janeman’ is an insightfully directed modern fable that totally wins us over with its astute writing, quaint setting, delightful narration and above all, real grounded performances.

At the end of it all, ‘Nalpathiyonnu’ strikes you as a film that does only partial justice to the storyline that deserved a much better treatment. As it is, it is more of a fable, the potential of which has only been partly explored.

The one take back that the film does offer is courtesy Berny Ignatious and the very beautiful number ‘Puthumazhayayi Vannu Nee’ from the original film is played yet again in the sequel. The rest of it is however, just a misaligned combo of horror tropes that lie scattered all over the place.

There is no way in which we could turn our faces away from the pertinence of the theme, and its truer than ever today that as technology overwhelms our lives, a button press could wreck a series of lives, including ours. In addition to the significant stream of thought that it offers, ‘Vikruthi’ is also is a decently appealing film that has its bountiful share of charming moments.

Kamal’s ‘Aami’ falls short of the requisites of an elegant biopic by a mile, and plays along like an unimaginatively scripted radio show, never really drawing you in, and never really letting you leave either. There is little of that captivating life that had enamored us here, or even less of the angst and authenticity of the woman who had chosen to live and love on her own inimitable terms.

The incidental pleasures that Dileesh Pothan’s film ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ offers are many, like the sardonic wisecracks and the continual cackles, while it fundamentally holds an indelible charm inside. A luminously acted rumination on the ifs and buts of life, ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ has enough emotional and dramatic drive to let it qualify as a class act with exceptional intelligence and grace.
