All said and done, ‘Shylock’ could strike you as the ultimate entertainer if you happen to be a die-hard fan, looking forward to watching his screen idol in an indomitable avatar. For the rest, it is hardly anything beyond a much-told tale that has been re-stitched with bits of pieces of star adulation intended to fit the towering charisma of its star.

Prithviraj Sukumaran’s much awaited directorial debut ‘Lucifer’ is more than anything else, a blatant celebration of the star actor that Mohanlal is, and in laying out a feast that caters to the colossal stardom of its leading star, everything else, including inventiveness takes a back seat.

‘Oraayiram Kinakkalal’ lives on material that has pretty much exhausted itself long back, and strikes you as a wasted opportunity more than anything else. The actors deserve better, and so does the audience, since these are dreams and plans gone awry in unimaginably slapdash ways.

While it remains that there is little wrong with blatantly brandishing a view point through a film, to remain blind to the manifold complexities and fine nuances that do not let the real world be easily partitioned into clear cut cubicles of extremities, could prove to be fatal. This takes a toll on the believability of the film, without doubt, and strips it of the possibilities of reflection, if any.
