‘Happy Sardar’ is a perfect example of how a probably brilliant idea on paper could evolve into a damp squib on screen. There is a fat chance that the romance in it would move you or the comedy in it would have you clutching your stomachs, and sans any real thought or notion, this Sardar and his gang brings you no joy.

‘Argentina Fans Kattoorkadavu’ dips its fingers in two bowls – of football and romance – and does justice to neither. Though it does elicit a few laughs here and there, there are very few other bright lights shining on this film that claims to be all about sport and love.

In an age when exaggeration and embroidery reign supreme, Abrid Shine silently strides onto a Youth Festival venue, unleashes his cast and crew on the fest grounds, and crafts a tiny gem of a film that exhorts what a distinct film maker he is. ‘Poomaram’ has none of the baloney that gets carted under the pretext of campus films these days, and instead hauls you back right onto those college grounds, where a massive expanse of a verdant tree stands tall, copiously shedding a splatter of blue flowers and fragrant memories, every time a breeze decides to blow by.
