Confronting their primal fears, the couple in ‘Love’ has a go at each other desperately, almost hysterically, letting us take a sneak peek at the monsters that lurk within them, that would stop at nothing until they have struck down their adversary dead. Another triumph from Khalid Rahman, this one!

Unda (2019) Malayalam Movie Review – Veeyen


Khalid Rahman’s ‘Unda’ is intelligent film making, and the ideological vantage point that it roots for, is one that has its fingers directed at the political scenario of one of the biggest democracies in the world. Never for a moment pretending to be erudite, ‘Unda’ is loaded with terrific insights that are fired away in quick succession, rendering it one of the most thought provoking Malayalam films in recent times.

Ishq (2019) Malayalam Movie Review – Veeyen


‘Ishq’ marks the arrival of another gifted film maker on the scene, who presents before us a fascinating study on how the human mind ticks, when pushed to exceptionally extreme limits and beyond. Parava (2017) Malayalam Movie Review – Veeyen


‘Parava’ is a charming coming-of-age tale with a liberal dose of backtales thrown in.  It does gallantly buck time-honoured storytelling strategies with innovative modes of its own, and yet leaves you with that faint regret that despite all its artistry and ambition, it’s not that absolute, flawless piece of cinema that would have left you in a daze.

Varnyathil Aashanka (2017) Malayalam Movie Review – Veeyen


There are a few masterly strokes of the film maker that are on display in ‘Varnyathil Aashanka’ that point at how compelling a film it could actually have been. It’s a figure of speech that gets its act only partly right, and its hesitance to fully embrace its goofiness, renders it a much lesser movie than one anticipates it to be.
