Mamangam (2019) Malayalam Movie Review – Veeyen


Despite the very obvious passion that it holds for the genre, M Padmakumar’s ‘Mamangam’ is miles away from the estimable cinematic piece that it could have been.  With a tightened format and a focused script, this is a film that could have been as magnificent a fest as ‘Mamangam’ must have been, but which goes up in flames despite an exorbitant budget and a stellar cast.

Athiran (2019) Malayalam Movie Review – Veeyen


Filmmaker Vivek proves beyond doubt that he has an eye for visual detail, and even does a brave crossover to a few alien realms, but what he seriously lacks here is a compelling tale that would keep the viewers dangling on the edge. Which is why, despite all the creepy moments, and that final mandatory twist at the end, ‘Athiran’ feels like it actually set out to be so much more than what it actually turned out to be.

Ezra (2017) Malayalam Movie Review by Veeyen


The urban unease that is unleashed in ‘Ezra’ is one that lurks around dark corners, and as the couple frantically tries to tide over the terror that has taken over their lives, they realize that fear finally has a meaning. Eerie and unsettling by turns, ‘Ezra’ is a chilling feature that is deftly directed, splendidly acted and elegantly shot.

An exorcism drama that dwells on a much recognizable theme and quite identifiable plot devices, Jay K’s ‘Ezra’ nonetheless emerges the most intensely shot horror film in Malayalam till date.
